Cookie Policy

The short version

Some cookies are needed to make the site work: signing you in, keeping the portal secure, and remembering whether you prefer light or dark mode. Those are strictly necessary, so we do not need your permission — but we do have to tell you about them.

We would also like to use advertising cookies from Meta (Facebook and Instagram), TikTok and Microsoft Advertising, so we can show our ads to people who have already visited us and see which ads lead to enquiries. Those are optional. They are switched off until you accept them on the banner, rejecting is as easy as accepting, and you can change your mind at any time using the link at the bottom of every page.

What a cookie is

A cookie is a small text file a website stores on your device. "Local storage" works in a similar way. Both let a site remember something between page loads, such as the fact you have already signed in.

What we use

  • Sign-in session (set by our authentication provider, names beginning sb-): keeps you signed in to the client portal. Strictly necessary. Lasts up to 7 days, or until you sign out.
  • Security tokens: protect forms and sign-in links against misuse. Strictly necessary. Session length only.
  • Theme preference (ark-theme, local storage): remembers light or dark mode. Strictly necessary for the display you chose. Stays until you clear your browser storage.
  • Your cookie choice (ark-consent-v1, local storage): records whether you accepted or rejected advertising cookies, and when, so we do not ask again on every page. Stays until you clear your browser storage.
  • Payment pages: when you pay, Stripe sets its own strictly necessary cookies for fraud prevention on their hosted checkout. See Stripe's cookie notice for details.

Visitor statistics

We keep an eye on how many people visit the site and which pages they read, using our hosting platform's built-in analytics. It is cookie-free: it does not store anything on your device, does not follow you around the web, and does not build a profile of you. The figures we see are aggregated counts of page views, referring sites and rough country-level location, worked out from the request itself and not kept against you as an individual. Because nothing is stored or read on your device, no consent is required for it under PECR.

Advertising cookies (optional — only with your consent)

If you accept, the following advertising partners set cookies and similar identifiers in your browser. They let us show our ads to people who have visited this site (remarketing) and measure which ads led to an enquiry or a plan. They do not receive your name, and we never sell your data.

  • Meta Pixel (Facebook and Instagram) — cookies _fbp and _fbc, typically up to 90 days.
  • TikTok Pixel — cookie _ttp, typically up to 13 months.
  • Microsoft Advertising UET (Bing and the Microsoft Audience Network) — cookies _uetsid (session) and _uetvid (up to 13 months).

These partners act as independent or joint controllers for the advertising data they collect; their own privacy notices explain what they do with it. Data may be transferred outside the UK/EEA under UK adequacy regulations, the International Data Transfer Agreement or EU Standard Contractual Clauses. Our legal basis is your consent (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a) and PECR regulation 6), which you can withdraw at any time with the link — we then stop the tags and clear those cookies. We still do not use Google Analytics or cross-site profiling of our own.

Controlling cookies

You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings (usually under Privacy or Site settings). Blocking our strictly necessary cookies will stop the client portal from working — you will not be able to stay signed in. Guidance for every major browser is available at aboutcookies.org.
